ZEMOS98 is a team of cultural workers.
We try to create critical thinking, we try to deconstruct the mass-media messages, we try to weave networks, relationships and
communities. We try to work in the intersections and margins. We try to work (g)locally, behind the borders. We try to take care of our networks and we try to reuse and remix all of our contents. We try to organize a Festival every year and we try to create a New Media Laboratory called 98LAB to learn about this things.
So, basically, we try things.
Second edition of 98lab project, directed towards young people from 18 to 30, with the goal of taking part in a research collective team to analize topics, territories and agents, and reflecting about "precariousness in life".
98lab will take place in Seville from June to December, 2013. In this second edition, we will reflect about “precariousness of life” in a moment where we have lost many of our rights due to modern Capitalism and its relaxation of laws relating to terms of employment, economic liberalization, privatization, its idea of physical and intangible borders and its continous deposition of commons. We will think this topics through a collective research which pretends to stablish a local community of young people with similar field of interests.
The main goal is to stimulate critical perspectives to remap Europe thinking about communities, territories, borders or migrations. We will research about the investigation processes that ZEMOS98 has been carrying out these last years in contact with related networks, from the local to the global context. Last year we invited Guillermo Zapata, Marta Malo, José Luis Tirado and Goteo (Enric Senabre, Olivier Schulbaum), among others. In this second edition we will have guests as well who will talk with us about different topics and they will introduce public activities (which will have an enrolement price for everyone who’s not participant of 98lab).
98lab workshop will take place on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 21:00 at Centro de las Artes de Sevilla (Centre of Arts of Seville) If you want to participate and you are between 18 and 30, you have to fill this application form, send us one minute video of previous works and an article (2000 to 4000 words) reflecting about precariousness in your life. Enrolment is completely free, you can do it until May, 19th.
The videos will be part of the Media Collection managed by Doc Next Network, which links Amsterdam, Warsaw, London, Istanbul and Seville to give youth a place where they can show their point of views about Europe in order to change reality. The network is specially focused on audiovisual productions, new narratives and different discourses through Europe.
